Framing a Subject
2.18.20
This week I completed the assignment where I worked on how to properly frame a subject to create a more interesting image. I read the articles linked and looked at the example photos on the assignment, and tried to take inspiration from them. The articles were helpful in teaching me different ways to focus on and frame a subject. In the first two photos, I tried an obvious approach by utilizing the doorway to a greenhouse. In the bottom two, I tried a more unconventional approach to framing using an old telephone, a fan, and fake flowers.
Self-Evaluation
1. The first two were shot on P mode on the canon, the other two were shot on my iPhone 11.
2. I think my composition is well-executed for the most part; having framing in mind helped with this.
3. The editing impacted the mood of the photos a lot. The first two gave me an old farm, American Gothic vibe to begin with, so I turned down the saturation and made the light appear warmer to fit this aesthetic. The other two, I made grayscale because it emphasized focus on the subject and lighting.
4. If I were to do this assignment again, I think I would want to go somewhere where I could use arches of buildings and other types of frames.
5. I don't think these are the best photos, I am still working on developing my eye for photography, but I am proud of the way they turned out anyway.
